Promoting and Preserving America’s Railroad Heritage
Since the mid-1950s, the Amherst Railway Society has been one of the most influential and respected railroad and model railroad organizations in the United States.
The Amherst Railway Society funds railroad preservation and restoration programs all over the United States. Since 1991, we have donated $829,252 to organizations working to safeguard our national railroad heritage.
The Amherst Railway Society promotes model railroading. Through our model railroad group, the Amherst Belt Lines, we introduce model railroading to new audiences all over the Northeast. We teach model railroading skills, build community among model railroaders, and support the efforts of other model railroad organizations, manufacturers, and vendors.
Through the Joe Lepage Library and Education Center, the Amherst Railway Society provides a valuable resource of reference manuals and work space for model railroaders. The Education Center hosts clinics and small-group tutorials on a variety of model railroad subjects.
From humble beginnings on the University of Massachusetts campus in the 1950s, the Amherst Railway Society has become one of the most influential and respected railroad and model railroad organizations in the United States.
