2005 Grants Announced by Amherst Railway Society
Members of the Amherst Railway Society approved 21 grants totaling $18,830 at the annual business meeting on June 21, 2005. The grants are made to assist railroad related restoration and preservation projects and are made possible through funds raised at the societys Annual Big Railroad Hobby Show.
This years grants for equipment restoration were given to the Danbury Railway Museum, Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley Chapter NRHS,the Railway Museum of New England, Boston Street Railway Association, Berkshire Scenic Railroad, Branford Electric Railway Association, New England Electric Railway Association, Downeast Rail, Railways to Yesteryear, the Connecticut Electric Railway Association and the Flying Yankee Restoration Group.
Grants for building and structure repair and restoration were made to the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum, Windsor Locks Preservation Association, Boothbay Railway Village and the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum.
Other recipients of this years grants include Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, the Chester Foundation, Railway Preservation News, Connecticut Eastern Chapter NRHS, Friends of the East Broad Top and Friends of the Keystone Arches.
The Amherst Railway Society is a non-profit organization and membership is open to anyone interested in any form of railroading. Monthly meetings feature speakers from the railroad industry, historians, authors, photographers and rail enthusiasts.
