The Amherst Belt Lines will be setting up a modular model railroad at RailFair 2021 on October 2 & 3, 2021. The event will be held at the Regency Hotel and Conference Center in Boxborough, Massachusetts. (see map below)
Railfair 2021 is sponsored by the Nashua Valley Railroad Association (NVRA). NVRA has issued the following COVID protocols for RailFair 2021:
All safety precautions and recommendations by the CDC and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health will be followed during the show, including mandatory mask wearing and social distancing.
Setup begins on Friday, October 1.
Over the years, RailFair has become a large, fun model railroad event. In addition to the model railroad displays, exhibits, and dealers, the show is adding “Caboose Corner” this year – filled with many family-oriented activities.
If you are an Amherst Railway Society member, watch for the show e-mailing approximately two weeks prior to the show. The e-mail will contain all details of the Belt Line’s participation in RailFair 2021.

The Amherst Belt Lines participates in several train shows each year, in addition to the Amherst Railway Society’s annual Railroad Hobby Show.
At each show, we configure a modular model layout based on the floor space we are given.
Our show participation supports the activities of the sponsoring organization, usually another model railroad club or historical society, and gives us a chance to promote the enjoyment of model railroading to the attendees of the show.
On a show weekend, we generally set up the layout the day before the show – connect and level all the modules and make sure everything is operating correctly.
On the day of the show, we operate the layout like a real railroad with a classification yard, both local and through freights, and passenger trains. Most trains are operated by Belt Lines members, but we do have guest operators as well.
Belt Lines members often run their own locomotives and rolling stock on the layout.
