The Amherst Belt Lines will be setting up a modular model railroad at The Railroad Hobby Show on January 29 & 30, 2022. The event will be held at the Eastern States Exposition fairgrounds in West Springfield, Massachusetts. (see map below)
The Railroad Hobby Show is sponsored by the Amherst Railway Society.
All Massachusetts state and local mandated COVID safety precautions and recommendations will be followed during the show.
Setup begins on Thursday, January 27, and continues on Friday, January 28.
The Railroad Hobby Show is one of the largest railroad-themed shows in the country, attracting over 20,000 visitors each year. The Amherst Belt Lines assembles one of the largest operating model railroads at the show.
If you are an Amherst Railway Society member, watch for the show e-mailing approximately two weeks prior to the show. The e-mail will contain all details of the Belt Line’s participation in The Railroad Hobby Show.

The Amherst Belt Lines participates in several train shows each year, in addition to the Amherst Railway Society’s annual Railroad Hobby Show.
At each show, we configure a modular model layout based on the floor space we are given.
Our show participation supports the activities of the sponsoring organization, usually another model railroad club or historical society, and gives us a chance to promote the enjoyment of model railroading to the attendees of the show.
On a show weekend, we generally set up the layout the day before the show – connect and level all the modules and make sure everything is operating correctly.
On the day of the show, we operate the layout like a real railroad with a classification yard, both local and through freights, and passenger trains. Most trains are operated by Belt Lines members, but we do have guest operators as well.
Belt Lines members often run their own locomotives and rolling stock on the layout.
